My Fantasy Football Starting QB

Leading up to the beginning of the 2012 NFL regular season, I will be posting short blogs detailing each of the players on my fantasy football roster. Onward to victory, Green With Envy!

Following a monster break out season, I am expecting Matthew Stafford to post similar statistics this year.

Matt Stafford

After repeatedly suffering shoulder injuries in his first two seasons, Stafford finally put it together for his third regular season campaign, showcasing his cannon arm and displaying an excellent rapport with star wide receiver/ super freak athlete Calvin Johnson. Last year Stafford accumulated over 5,000 passing yards and tossed 41 touchdowns while leading the Lions to their first playoff berth in over a decade.

While Detroit’s running back situation is very cloudy due to the fact they all seem constantly injured/ concussed, Stafford has a wealth of receiving options at his disposal. He’s got reliable veteran wideout Nate Burleson, young speedster Titus Young, and hulking tight end Brandon Pettigrew. As previously mentioned, Stafford also enjoys the luxury of being able to toss the pigskin to the NFL’s premier pass catcher Calvin Johnson, an athletic freak of nature whose humongous frame and immense height (6’5) make him virtually impossible to effectively cover. Throw in the fact Johnson runs a 4.35 40-yard dash and can vertical leap 44 inches, and you have a receiving threat who is without peer. Stafford should continue to post gaudy numbers this year, and I am relying on him to put up huge points on a weekly basis if my team is going to have any success.

That shoulder better stay in place though…
